Well, Kal Penn finally opened up about his romantic life with his partner Josh to release his newest book. In his book “You Can’t Be Serious,” Kal Penn gave away inside scoop on his first date with Josh.
Yet, Kal Penn knows how to keep his audience hooked. He revealed that he and Josh first met while Kal Penn was living in Washington DC.
Recalling the first date, Kal Penn shares that “Josh showed up to his apartment with an 18-pack of Coors Light and then proceeded to turn on a NASCAR race.” which made him believe that things are not going to work for them. Kal Penn also mentions that since Josh is a very shy person, he does not want to enter public. Hence, leading to being Josh’s last name a secret too.
In October 2021, Kal Penn revealed that he is now engaged to Josh and it was not an easy decision to be made. As coming from an Indian immigrant family, it was least expected by the family. And the chaos created can ruin anything. However, Kal Penn is very thankful to his family and friends for always supporting them, especially regarding his relationship with Josh.

Kal Penn comes out as gay for the very first time after announcing engagement with Josh.
He revealed that he discovered his own sexuality comparatively late. However, Kal is satisfied that at least he recognized his preference when it was destined too. Kal Penn found a wonderful partner like Josh with whom he has been in a relationship for the last 11 years.

“I’ve always been very public with everybody I’ve personally interacted with. Whether it’s somebody that I meet at a bar, if Josh and I are out or we’re talking to friends,”
“I’m really excited to share our relationship with readers. But Josh, my partner, my parents, and my brother, four people who I’m closest to in the family, are fairly quiet. They don’t love attention and shy away from the limelight.”
Additionally, Kal Penn shares with PEOPLE,
“I have one day off from The White House and this dude is unironically watching cars go around and make left turns? Next thing you know, it’s been a couple months and we’re watching NASCAR every Sunday. I’m like, ‘What is happening?’ I wanted the reader to enjoy the love and the humor through all of those stories.”
Kal Penn mentions to PEOPLE that he always shares everything with his parents and close friends before sharing it with anyone else. Kal Penn share,
“When you’ve already told your Indian parents and the South Asian community that you intend to be an actor for a living, really any conversations that come after that are super easy. They’re just like, ‘Yeah, okay.’ I felt very supported by everyone. That’s a wonderful thing. I know everybody has different experiences with that and so I definitely feel very fortunate.”
