Netflix has removed After Life producer Charlie Hanson from the show and suspended him from BAFTA following sexual misconduct allegations were made against him.

Netflix and Bafta took the harsh decision after being contacted by the women, whereas he had his membership on BAFTA.

As per deadline.com, both Netflix and BAFTA were sent an anonymous email containing allegations about Charlie Hanson.

The award-winning producer is alleged to have preyed on 11 different women when they were young, “promising them a starry career under the wing” before making unwanted sexual advances.

The allegations lodged against him- including incidents of serious sexual assault – date from 2008 and 2015.

Decider.com reports, during 2008, one of the women alleges about the incident where Charlie had sex with her without her permission in her house- an alleged incident that left her “traumatized.”

Another woman alleges an incident occurred in 2015, where Hanson had made sexual contact at home, despite her state of semi-consciousness. The allegations were charged against him between 2008 to 2015.

Netflix has confirmed Charlie Hanson is no longer a producer on After Life after having different allegations against him. Ricky Gervais responded to the allegations made against him by removing him from the production of his hit Netflix series.

In the statement, Gervais added,

“I am shocked and appalled to learn of the historical allegations made by a number of women against Charlie Hanson. The decision was made to immediately remove him from production and referred the matter to the police.I have worked with and supported hundreds of men and women during my working life and will do what is necessary to protect and/or restore my reputation. I will also cooperate with any formal inquiries. The matter is now in the hands of my solicitors.”

Thesun reports, In the 5,000-word email, the woman alleged: “Charlie Hanson is a predator who uses his reputation, connections and standing in order to groom far younger, impressionable and sometimes vulnerable women into trusting him.”, she added, “At times he will promise them a starry career under his wing, and then exploits that trust in creepy and illegal ways.”

As per bbc.com, Hanson said in a statement via his lawyer: The accusations made against him are anonymous and are demonstrably false, concerning improper conduct towards women dating back many years.

BAFTA also stated that “Bafta is an arts charity and does not have the power to investigate historical claims of abuse; therefore, we have referred the matter to the police.

“The behavior that these accounts allege is abhorrent, in complete opposition to Bafta values, and has no place in our industry.”

Charlie Hanson also stated that he would fully cooperate with any kind of formal investigation.
